Dehradun: (BIG NEWS TODAY): Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) today participated in the seminar titled “Youth Against Corruption” on the causes and prevention of corruption, organized by the Vigilance Establishment, Uttarakhand, at Lok Bhavan. On this occasion, he described corruption as the biggest challenge to nation-building and called for a decisive fight against it.

Former administrative officers, retired senior officials, academicians, and youth actively took part in the discussion. Participants shared their views on the causes of corruption, its social impact, and measures for its prevention. Special emphasis was laid on the role of youth, public awareness, transparent governance, and the effective use of technology.
The Governor said that corruption is the greatest challenge in the process of nation-building and that collective efforts are essential to eliminate it. He emphasized that unless there is a change in the mindset of both those who give and those who take bribes, improvement in the system is not possible. Appreciating the seminar organized by the Vigilance Department and the Police Administration, he stated that initiatives such as e-governance, technology-driven systems, and Direct Bank Transfer have enhanced transparency and reduced the role of middlemen. He also stressed the need to increase the conviction rate against the guilty.
The Governor said that to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047 under the leadership of the Prime Minister, it is imperative to strike hard at corruption. Terming corruption as an obstacle in the path of development, he described it as a serious problem that must be eradicated from its roots.
Praising the strict decisions taken against corruption in Uttarakhand, the Governor said that strong action has been taken in corruption-related cases in recent years. He urged the youth to make honesty, transparency, and accountability a part of their lives and to resolve not to accept corruption in any form.
The discussion was attended by J. S. Pandey, former Director General of Police; Kumkum Rani, former Judge; Vipin Chandra, former Chief Information Commissioner; Yogesh Kumar Dev, Information Commissioner; J. S. Virk, Deputy A.G./Advocate, Hon’ble High Court; and D. S. Maan, Chairman, Doon International School. On the occasion, Director General of Police Deepam Seth, Director Vigilance V. Murugesan, DIG Vigilance Prahlad Narayan Meena, Dhirendra Gunjyal, along with other officers and students from various schools, were also present.
